These are sites that I have recently found useful or interesting. Obviously I don't recommend that you surf over to the NJ Transit site, but the site was effective for me, and that's why I am listing it. I know there are a lot of interesting sites out there, but I am not really one to seek on-line entertainment. This stuff is, for the most part, useful in nature.

AltaVista. Some say that there are better search engines out there, but why switch if you are content with what you have?

New York Public Library Catalogs [via telnet; type "leo" when prompted for username]. Use this to look up interesting books and videos. If you put a hold on something, it will be delivered to the local branch and you'll get a notice that they are holding it for you.

Yahoo Finance. Keep track of your portfolio and check it with a single click.

Reverse Phone Lookup. It's nice to find out the name behind the number turned up via *69.

New York Times. Why buy it when you can read it on-line for free? Save a tree.

Real Astrology. Not a 'practical' site, but I find the author's poetic approach compelling.

CSS Properties. I am using "Cascading Style Sheets" to format the text on this site. For all their usefulness, it is hard to find good documentation. This site does the trick.

New Jersey Transit. I don't visit the site often, but then again, I don't visit Jersey often! But it's got the schedule information I need, and sure beats navigating their voice-mail system.

MTA. More schedules and transport information for the NYC area, including MetroNorth and LIRR.
